Obedience Training for Puppies

Giving a puppy Obedience training is more difficult than teaching a dog. Puppies are more delicate and fragile, so they need to be dealt with more patience. The golden rule to follow is never force your puppy to do anything it doesn’t want to and only encourages it to do the task. A dog is considered to be a puppy all the way up to 6 months.

Puppies are just like kids, they are immature, extremely playful and they eat and sleep a lot. You have to respect your puppy’s wishes if you want to train it. Also make it seem like a game while training your puppy. If the puppy has a favorite toy or a ball, try using it for training. If your puppy is resistant, give the toy to it and get it engrossed, then take the toy away and start the training session again. This might encourage the puppy to do whatever you want it to do.

Puppies are very cute and extremely lovable. Most people go wrong by falling for these traits and lose their priority towards training. You should always keep your main aim as training your puppy for healthy habits right in the beginning. It is also very crucial to toilet train the puppies early. The lack of house breaking has ruined many people’s carpets and homes to the extent that they regret having the dog. There are several ways to train your pup, if you do not know how to then you should get a book with clear instructions or you can get a trainer to do it for you.

Puppies also have to be trained not to chew on everything they find, not to bite people’s toes, and also there should be some areas from where the puppy has to be restricted like the basement of the house or the kitchen for example. A dog has no business there so it should be trained not to go to these places.

Obedience training includes many aspects like listening to you when you ask your puppy to sit or stand, or stay put in one place. It is very difficult to get a puppy to do that but that is what obedience training is all about. It is also important to walk your puppy every day to teach commands like heel and stop. These commands are useful whenever you have to talk your puppy out like to a park or even the vet visit.

Puppies are quick learners and you do not have to put in a lot of effort in training them but it has to be a consistent effort. You cannot train a puppy for more than five minutes at a stretch because their attention span is very low. You have to make best use of the puppy’s playtime to teach it some manners.

The key to Obedience training is to have a lot of patience with your puppy and also reward to in different ways the moment it listens to you. Puppies are very clever and they w ill understand why they are being rewarded.
