Obedience Training - Communication

There is no denial that Obedience training is a must for all dogs however it is important to keep the training simple for the dogs. The more complicated the set up is for the dog the more uncomfortable your pet will be. It is very important for the dogs to have a conducive environment while getting trained. In-case you cannot provide that, than you rather not train your dog.

Here are a few things you can do to train your dog in a simple way.

Home first: Dogs are very territorial creatures and they are very comfortable in the place that they know just like babies. Any outside environment might put them in a position of insecurity. Try training your dog in the house or your yard or garden first. Your dog is your best friend and trusts you a lot. It is most likely to listen to you first than anyone else. It does take some consistent effort to train the dog but even if you spend 10 minutes everyday training, it is more than enough. Use your dogs own toys and own things to train as it is more effective. Familiarity for the dog is the key to getting it trained easily. They also feel safe at home and know that there are no threats. This helps to boost your dog’s confidence levels while training them.

No distractions: Dogs are very playful animals and get distracted easily. If you choose to train your pet in a park it may not be very effective because dogs can get distracted easily with kids, other dogs in the park and just about anything. It makes the training sessions longer and takes more effort on your part. You can take a trained dog to a park for further training but it is better to train it initially at home.

Use simple language: Communication is the key to obedience training your dog. Always use extremely simple and clear words as commands. It has to be one word mostly or two words if you have to. More than that the dog cannot understand and does not know either. Some of the simple words that you can use for obedience training are stop, go, sit, stand, fetch, quiet and heel. Never use harsh words like shut up because you will have to use the same word in public places to ask your dog to keep quiet. The dog does not know the difference between words like shut up and quite and it is best to use polite words. When you say shut up angrily all it can understand is the tone of your voice and it won’t understand what it is supposed to do.

Reward your dog: Whenever your dog listens to you it is very important to assure it by praising or rewarding it. The dog will not only be happy with your gesture but is also assured that it is doing the right thing and that is the way to behave. Rewarding is not considered as bribing because you are praising your dog as a sign of appreciation. Bribing is when you show it a bone or a treat and persuading it to do something. This can be a dangerous pit fall for you because your dog will start expecting the same treat every time it has to do something that you ask it to. These are some crucial rules of Obedience training.
