Dog Obedience - Rewards Vs Discipline

Communication plays a large in any kind of relationship and even with your pet. You take several pains for training your dog and sometimes you are happy with your dog and sometimes you are annoyed. No matter what it is you feel you need to convey it to your dog for better prospects of dog obedience. And communication is a two Way Street remember. So when your dog does something well you need to appreciate it and reward your dog for good behavior.

By talking to the dog it learns a lot from you and the way you modulate your voice when you are teaching your dog. Eventually your dog can tell if you are annoyed, or happy by referring to the tone of your voice. Praise your dog, assure your dog and hug your dog a lot. Your display of affection will help the dog understand your feelings towards it and may cause the dog to behave well. There is a difference between loving your dog and pampering it. People pamper their dogs when they give in even when it is wrong. To display love for your dog just a hug or a kiss or even a pat will do.

The three basic steps in training for dog obedience are motivation, encouragement and correction, the three fundamental steps to train a dog. Give the dog a reason to do the activity you suggest, praise your dog always for listening to you and correct your dog when he is wrong.

Use good equipment to start with and make sure you use a good leash and a collar that fits your dog. It is essential because a badly fitted collar can ruin the walking experience for your dog and choke chains are a strict no unless you hate your dog and would like to strangle it.

Start training at home before you take your dog to a finishing or trainer. Disciplines starts at home for everyone and always avoid taking your untrained dog directly on to the street for walking as it is unsafe for you and your dog. Start your training lessons at home and slowly progress to the street. Venture onto the street only when your dog starts listening to you.

The golden rule of teaching dog obedience to your pet is rewarding it. There is no fun in the whole game for your dog if it is not getting anything out of the whole exercise. If you start rewarding your dog with praise and appreciation, that is all they need from you and they also start looking forward for training. Also remember training is a consistent exercise and has to be done regularly until your dog completely gets used to discipline. Training cannot be achieved in a single day and no training would be fruitful without continuity. It is possible to train your pet to listen to you by taking some care to spend some quality time with your pet. The best place to train a dog will be a place without much distractions or people and a place like your own yard or garden is perfect.
