Our Yorkie Max

They say that if you leave a Yorkie alone he will get into trouble. Well, that is most definitely the truth! They are very much family oriented and when they are separated from you, even if it is just while you're at the grocery store for an hour, you never know what you might come home too.

This was the case with our Yorkie, Max. You could say that Max was a dog with expensive tastes. One morning I had and left some cash lying on the bedside table. There was a twenty, a couple fives and some ones. When I got out of the shower I noticed that the money was gone. I went looking for it around the house figuring that Max had just hid it from me somewhere. When I looked out the back door I saw pieces of paper lying around the yard. "Great," I thought. I just knew he had chewed it all up.

I went out into the yard and found pieces of the twenty dollar bill lying all over the yard. He had taken the money outside with him through his doggy door. The twenty was in about twenty pieces, but the ones and the fives just had a few teeth marks in them. He had only torn up the twenty! I called the bank and asked them if there was anything I could do, as my dog had eaten my cash. They told me to bring in the pieces and they replaced it for me. It was kind of embarrassing, but I didn't know that they would replace money that had been destroyed like that. Like I said, he's a dog with expensive taste.

When my husband and I would leave him alone as a puppy he would also get himself into some mischief. Typically, he would just find some paper that was lying around and tear it up and then leave it front of the front door. Kind of a "that's what you get for leaving me" kind of gesture. As you can see, the Yorkie is quite the intelligent dog.

Most of this behavior was when he was young. As he got older he grew out of this behavior because as part of our dog obedience training schedule for our Yorkie, we kept him active. We got him plenty of toys to keep him busy while we left. When we travel, we pack him along with us. Despite his goofiness we still love him to pieces and he has his very charming moments.

Halloween is always fun as well. He has a cute array of costumes from the past few years. This year he was a little Devil and he really fit the part. His Yorkie friend from next door was Snow White. They were just too cute together.

If you're looking for a little dog that you can really have a lot of fun with, the Yorkie is a great choice. They really do think they are big dogs, despite being so small. They also have a big bark despite being so small, which makes them excellent "alarms" when strangers come around.
